What is a Steam Separator?

It is a device that is use to remove water particles from from the steam so that it can transfer to turbine or steam engine.

How do they work ?

As you can see that steam enter from the left hand side striking the baffle plates due to that steam get deflect but water particles having density greater than steam and due to greater inertia value they fall at the bottom . At the bottom all water can drained as per the requirement

Why there is need for steam separator ?

Suppose you have a steam that contain water particles and now it send to steam turbine to rotate when the steam which water strikes the blade it cause a great damage to blade (density of water> steam) leading to increase maintenance cost
